Item description:

Scarce postally unused 1904 real-photo bookmark postcard of General Sir Redvers Buller (1839-1908), who participated in the Canadian Red River Expedition of 1870 in Manitoba, Canada. Born at Crediton, Devonshire in England, he took part in the 1860 China campaign and was a captain while in Canada, later serving in Africa and earning the Victoria Cross. The Red River Expedition, also known as the Wolseley Expedition and the Red River Rebellion, was a troop movement which confronted Louis Riel and the Métis in 1870. The Expedition established Canadian sovereignty over both Manitoba and the Northwest Territories, and laid to rest American expansionist sentiments in northern border states. Redvers, Saskatchewan is named after General Redvers. A desirable native Americana, Canadian or military collectible in near-mint condition!
